About
Sasha’s Project
Sasha’s Project is a charity which has been set up in memory of Sasha, a Hampshire girl who died by suicide when she was just 20.
Sasha’s struggles were exacerbated by the lack of help available to her when her mental health was poor. When she was feeling suicidal, she needed compassion, support and a safe place to go to, especially during the night.
The Project runs a drop-in crisis centre at The Point Youth Centre, Harlington Way, Fleet GU51 4BP. Open from 9pm to 6am every Friday and Saturday night, it is a safe haven for young people age 13 to 25 who struggling with their mental health or who are having thoughts of suicide. It offers a caring, non-clinical environment and is complete confidentiality.
How they
were selected
In January we opened up the nominations on our Facebook page. We asked the people to put forward local charities who they would like to see as the chosen carnival charity.
In April we count the votes and the four charities with the most votes go forward to the next stage. We then open the voting on our Facebook page again and ask people to vote. As well as online voting we collect votes during the day of the carnival. The voting closes at the close of the carnival and we then combine those votes with those that have been done online.
