Most people think that the Carnival is run by the various Councils and some think that we have a huge committee. In actual fact, whilst we have great relationships with our local Councils, they are not a part of our committee. Our committee fluctuates between 12-20 people each year. Every single one of us is an unpaid volunteer. Yes it is hard work BUT as the biggest and oldest event in Fleet that is hardly surprising. That said, there is something quite magical about seeing the ‘000’s of people lining the streets and flooding onto Calthorpe Park over the weekend.

About Church Crookham
& Fleet Mens Shed

Founded in February 2017 the Mens Shed aims to help combat loneliness and promote wellbeing in men within the local area. They do this by providing a workshop facility in which members can share resources and skills to enable them to make and mend items. Members can make their own items or get involved with making items for other  local charitable groups e.g. schools, playgroups etc.

They are now building their own workshop so any funds raised will help towards the maintenance costs, operation costs, purchase of equipment and consumables to enable them to continue to be able to support other local groups and more importantly those members of the community that need support with their general wellbeing.

How they
were selected

In January we opened up the nominations on our Facebook page.  We asked the people to put forward local charities who they would like to see as the chosen carnival charity.

In April we count the votes and the four charities with the most votes go forward to the next stage. We then open the voting on our Facebook page again and ask people to vote.  As well as online voting we collect votes during the day of the carnival. The voting closes at the close of the carnival and we then combine those votes with those that have been done online.
