About Autism Friendly Fleet

Autism Friendly Fleet was founded in May 2017 by a group of mums with children on the autistic spectrum. The charity raises awareness about autism in Fleet and the surrounding areas by providing free training to local businesses and organisations. It also organises a ‘Chill Zone’ at local events such as the Fleet Carnival, Food Festival and Christmas Festival. Feedback has proved this to be invaluable for autistic people and their families, enabling them to go out and enjoy such events but to have a quieter, calm place to take a break from the noise and crowds. Autism Friendly Fleet would eventually like to be able to raise enough money to purchase its own ‘Chill Zone’ tent and provide a sensory room in the town.

In January we opened up the nominations on our Facebook page. We asked the people to put forward local charities who they would like to see as the chosen Carnival Charity.
In April, just before the programme goes to print, we count the votes and the four charities with the most votes go forward to the next stage.
We then open the voting on our Facebook page again and ask people to vote. As well as online voting we collect votes over the Carnival weekend.
The voting closes at 7pm on the Sunday of Carnival and we then combine the votes online with those that have been collected on over the weekend.
